Congratulations, Mr. Diehl!
GOOD DIEHL: At last week’s Howland girls basketball [award ceremony] John Diehl was granted the OHSAA Sportsmanship, Ethics, and Integrity Award.
According to the OHSAA, “Individuals selected should reflect the values of sportsmanship, ethics and integrity through all of their professional responsibilities and should be a role model for others.”
In 22 years as the girls’ coach at Howland, Diehl has compiled a 341-166 record. The Tigers have reached the district finals eight times in that span, winning four. Prior to Howland, Diehl coached Bristol’s boys; team and amassed 107 victories. In 1994, the Panthers reached the D-IV state tournament.
Diehl has over 25 coaching awards and is the only coach in state history to coach in both the boys and girls North-South game.
